Let’s make INDIA better!

indian-flag

We recently celebrated 73rd Independence Day. We are proud of our country “INDIA”. This country has given so much to us; a place to live, food to eat, water to drink, schools for education, hospitals for good health, parks to walk & play and many more uncountable things. Well, I agree if some people may disagree with me on above mentioned things but please understand no country is perfect. Pros and Cons are everywhere. Some things might be very good somewhere else but few things there might be bad as well.

If we try to find negatives, we will only see negative things; but if try to find positives, we will find lots & lots of positive things.

As I mentioned above, this country has given so much to us, now it’s our time to give back to INDIA so that we can make it better, let’s try to convert the negatives to positives!

What can we give back to India?

less-pollution

Less Pollution

We all know pollution levels are going up & up day by day, month by month, year on year. Let’s pledge & work towards reducing the pollution. Let’s not wait for the pollution level’s to reach bad or critical levels; let’s do car pool if we are going in same direction or same office; let’s try to use public transport more often (Metro is a very good option); let’s walk or ride cycle to the nearby market instead of going by car or bike; let’s get our car or bike checked regularly for pollution levels voluntarily & not in the fear of challan by traffic police; let’s stop the car engine on a big red light; let’s opt for a cleaner fuel like CNG while purchasing a new car; let’s opt for solar panels for electricity in our homes; let’s not burn wood, paper, dry leaves etc.; let’s reduce the numbers of crackers burnt (if we can’t stop burning) on diwali or dussehra; let’s not opt for pressure horns or unsilenced silencers for our cars & bikes; let’s not use horns in no honking zones like near schools, hospitals & other sensitive areas. Well the list can go on & on…

save-water

Save Water

Do you know 18 percent of the world’s population which resides in India only has access to 4 percent of usable water sources (Source: Wikipedia). Also, as per a report by NITI Aayog; 21 Indian cities will run out of groundwater by 2020. Although it is raining heavily these days which are creating floods in various parts of the country but all this flood water will eventually go to the ocean & during summers there will be a lot water scarcity. It’s high time; we should do something to conserve water. Let’s minimize use of shower & bath with bucket; let’s make sure water doesn’t overflow from bucket or water tank; let’s water plants using mug instead of pipe; let’s close the tap when it is going directly to drain while brushing or shaving; if possible, let’s make provisions for rain water harvesting; let’s call plumber to repair leaked pipes or taps in our homes.

reduce-reuse-recycle

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We read a lot about these 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle) but do we actually follow them? Are we doing anything to cut down on the amount of waste we throw away? All this waste is going to landfills & oceans. Why can’t we follow this 3 R’s model? Let’s reduce the use of paper by not printing until its necessary; let’s print on both sides of the paper if necessary; let’s opt for e-bill’s instead of paper bills; let’s use cloth napkins instead of paper napkins; let’s order limited food in food courts/party halls & reorder if more is required so that we don’t waste food; let’s switch off lights, fans, AC’s when not in use; let’s avoid using disposable plates, glasses, spoons etc.; let’s avoid packing the product in an extra plastic bag if it isn’t necessary; let’s carry our own carry bags like Jute bags to markets/shopping stores so that we can reduce extra packaging bags; let’s buy durable goods that can be reused again & again; let’s try to avoid single use products until it’s necessary; let’s take only required number of spoons, paper napkins etc. in food courts or return unused disposable cutlery back which otherwise goes in the bin; let’s donate old books or old clothes to poor children / people so that they can be reused; let’s sell our old products on OLX/QUIKR where people looking for second hand products can buy your old items which you no longer use; let’s segregate biodegradable & non- biodegradable wastes; let’s give recyclable products like newspaper, plastic bottles, metal items to nearby Kabadi wala so that they can be recycled.

We need to change ourselves, change our perception, change our habits, our thinking; then only we can make our country better.

Well, there are many more ways through which we can give back to our country; I will be posting about this in another post after some time. In the meantime, post your suggestions in the comments section below as to “how we can make INDIA better” would be highly appreciated.
